TOASTED OAT AND BERRY BREAKFAST TRIFLE WITH VANILLA YOGHURT
toasted oat and berry breakfast trifle with vanilla yogurt
A delightful breakfast dish that combines layers of toasted oats, mixed berry compote, and creamy vanilla yogurt. It offers a balance of textures with crunchy oats, sweet berries, and smooth yogurt.
This dish is not only delicious but also nutritious, providing a good source of fiber from the oats, antioxidants from the mixed berries, and probiotics from the yogurt. The toasting of oats adds a nutty flavor and extra crunch to the trifle, enhancing its overall taste.
It's a versatile recipe that allows for customization based on personal preferences. For instance, you can adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of honey or maple syrup used in the berry compote or opt for different types of berries based on seasonal availability.
The trifle can be prepared in advance and assembled before serving, making it a convenient breakfast option for busy mornings or a lovely addition to brunch gatherings. Its visually appealing layers make it an inviting dish to enjoy.
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 2 cups mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
- 2 cups vanilla yogurt
- 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Sliced almonds or chopped nuts (optional for garnish)
METHOD:
1. TOASTED OATS:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Spread the rolled oats evenly on a baking sheet.
Toast the oats in the oven for 10-15 minutes or until they turn golden brown. Keep an eye on them to avoid burning.
Once toasted, remove from the oven and let them cool.
2. BERRY COMPOTE:
In a saucepan, combine half of the mixed berries with the honey or maple syrup.
Cook over medium heat for about 5-7 minutes until the berries break down and form a compote-like consistency. Remove from heat and let it cool.
3. ASSEMBLING THE TRIFLE:
In serving glasses or bowls, start by layering a spoonful of vanilla yogurt at the bottom.
Add a layer of toasted oats on top of the yogurt.
Follow with a layer of the berry compote.
Repeat the layers until you reach the top of the glass, finishing with a dollop of vanilla yogurt.
4. GARNISH:
Top the trifle with the remaining fresh mixed berries and sliced almonds or chopped nuts for an added crunch.
5. SERVE:
Chill the assembled trifles in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
Start your day on a delightful note with this nutritious and customizable breakfast trifle. Whether for a quick morning bite or a brunch gathering, the balance of textures and flavors in this recipe promises a satisfying start. Prepare ahead for convenience, and savor the layers of toasted oats, mixed berry compote, and creamy vanilla yogurt. It's not just a meal but a visual treat for your senses. Happy breakfasting!
